ORANGEBURG, SC –
Olivia Moore's goal three minutes into the first overtime gave the South Carolina State Bulldogs a 2-1 victory over the Winthrop Eagles on Wednesday evening at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

The Eagles fall to 0-7-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 6-4-1 overall.

The goal by Moore came after Briana Lopez drew the Winthrop defense in and made a quick pass to an open Moore 13-yards out. Moore would put her shot past Eagle goalie Sarah Schippers and into the left side of the net for the game-winner.

South Carolina State came out of the gate quickly and put pressure on the Winthrop defense with two scoring chances in the first two minutes of play. In the first minute Moore had a shot from the near side, but it would go wide of the net. Lopez followed in the second minute from 18-yards out in the middle of the field, but Schippers made a diving save.

The Bulldogs went ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute on Brooke Ehinger's second goal of the season. Moore started the play with her through pass to Ehinger from midfield to the far side. Ehinger took the ball in stride, made two dribbles and put her shot past Schippers into the back of the net near side.

South Carolina State outshot the Eagles in the first half 10-2 and 7-1 in attempts on-net. Both teams tried one corner kick.

Rachel Webster and Tricia Vensel had one shot each for Winthrop in the opening half, while Lopez had five shots for the Bulldogs.

Schippers finished the first half snagging six saves, while South Carolina State goalkeeper Danielle Murphy posted one save.

The Eagles wasted little time taking their first shot of the second half two minutes in after Webster received a cross to the near side, but the ball went right to Murphy inside the 18-yard box. Murphy was unable to gain possession of the ball and Webster took the ball from Murphy, but rushed her shot attempt and sent it wide right.

Winthrop tied the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute on Allie VandeWater's first goal of the season. Webster received a through pass to the near side where she put up a cross to Vensel at the top of the 18-yard box. Vensel missed her shot attempt, but VandeWater was there to put her one-timer into the top left corner of the net.

Webster finished the match with a team-high two shots for the Eagles, while Lopez finished with eight for the Bulldogs. Schippers tied her career-high with eight saves, and Murphy grabbed four saves.

South Carolina State held a 16-7 advantage in shots and 10-5 in shots on-goal. Winthrop lead in corner kicks 3-2.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 as they open Big South Conference play at home against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
