ROCK HILL, SC—Both Winthrop and the Presbyterian College men's soccer teams are definitely looking forward to the showdown on Wednesday in Clinton, SC.
Both are currently riding four-game losing streaks, so one team may end the streak or they might both if the teams battle to a tie. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
Winthrop (2-5) has lost four straight games and has been shutout in all four. It's the first time since the 1995 season that an Eagle squad has suffered shutouts in four consecutive games. The school record for shutout losses in a row is five, set during the 1989 season. The last time Winthrop lost four games in a row was 2004 when the team dropped five straight. During the losing streak, Winthrop has been outscored 10-0.
The Blue Hose are 1-4-1 on the year and have lost four in a row after opening up the season with a 2-1 win over Furman and a 1-1 tie against USC Upstate. Since then PC has allowed 13 goals and scored just two. All four games have been on the road so PC finally returns home where it won the only home game on the season.
Of the five goals scored for PC this season, Stephen Glover and Logan Huff each have two. In net the Blue Hose have used a couple of different players with Williams Redmond getting five starts and James Neal getting another. Redmond is 1-3-1 with a 1.87 goals against average.
The all-time series favors Winthrop, 9-0, but only three of those matches coming in the recent years since the Blue Hose made the move to the Big South. Winthrop defeated PC 3-1 last year in Rock Hill, SC and pulled out a 2-0 win in Clinton in 2008.
