Winthrop goalkeeper Enrique Miranda was named the Big South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 22-28, the League announced today.

Miranda, a senior from Norcross, Ga., came away with nine saves to help the Eagles to a pair of Conference wins last week. He got his week started with six saves in Winthrop's 2-1 overtime win against Gardner-Webb on Oct. 24. Three days later against VMI, Miranda posted 90 minutes of shutout soccer with three saves in the 1-0 win. The honor is his first Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.

The shutout of VMI was the 10th in his career as he is now tied for 5th on Winthrop's all-time list. Miranda is 3-1-1 on the year with a 0.85 goals against average and hasn't allowed more than one goal in any apperance this season.
