Andrew Stubbs

Andrew Stubbs is completing his third season as the head men’s tennis coach after spending his first wo seasons as the assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach at Winthrop.

During his three years as head men’s coach, the former All-Southern Conference player at Wofford, has directed the Eagles back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 when he was in his first year as the assistant coach.  His three-year record stands at 35-36 following a 16-9 season and the Big South Conference Championship in 2014.

In his two years as the assistant coach,  the men’s and women’s programs combined for three Big South Conference Regular Season Championships, three Big South Conference Tournament Championships, three NCAA appearances, and two Big South Players of the Year. Both teams were also named ITA All-Academic teams in each season.

Stubbs joined the Winthrop Staff after serving as the graduate assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to UAB, Stubbs worked as the junior tennis coordinator at the prestigious Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, VA where he created and directed a high performance junior tennis academy.
Stubbs earned his Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2010. He graduated from Wofford College in 2008 with a B.A. in Finance, and he was a 4-time All-Southern Conference First-Team Selection. He played at the number 1 position in singles and doubles for every dual match of his career at Wofford and was the school’s selection for the Southern Conference Student Athlete of the Year in 2008.

Stubbs was the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Summer Circuit champion in 2005 and 2006. He also competed in the Polo All-American Championships in 2005-2007. He served as the team captain in his junior and senior seasons.

Stubbs is also a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).
