Nancy Capps has rejoined the Winthrop women’s golf Program as a volunteer coach after three years as the Associate Head Women’s Golf Coach at Queens University of Charlotte. During her time with the Royals they won Two SAC Conference Titles.
Capps also served as head coach of the women's golf team at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor from August 2012 to January 2013. Capps got her squad off to a great start in the fall posting a pair of second-place team finishes before ending the fall season with a 39-stroke victory at the Alamo City Classic. UMHB also set new school scoring records for 18, 36 and 54 holes in tournaments this fall. The Cru women were ranked No. 1 in the country in the final Golf stat Division III head-to-head rankings of the fall season and were fourth in the nation in the final Golf World/WGCA Division Top 25 Poll of the fall.
Prior to joining UHMB, Capps volunteered as an assistant coach at Winthrop University. She was also the assistant coach of the 2010 Pfeiffer University women's golf team that finished second at the Conference Carolinas Tournament, and the assistant coach of the 2009 Belmont Abbey College women's golf team. Additionally, Capps served as a golf instructor at Edwin Watts Golf Super Stores (2007-10), Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation (2004-10) and Jim Bell Harris Driving Range (2001-03).
Capps, no stranger to the player side, had a 13-year playing career on the LPGA tour, competing in over 220 events from 1986-1998. She posted a second place finish at the 1987 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic, finished second at the 1986 LPGA Tour School and played in four USGA Women's Open events during her career. Capps also played on the LPGA Futures Tour for three years, winning a Futures Tour event in 1986.
Capps holds a bachelor's degree in physical education earned from Arizona State University in 1983. The four-year letter winner earned all-conference honors and competed in the NCAA Division I National Championships in1983. While a Sun Devil, Capps was also the 1982 Nation USGA Public Links Champion and finished second in that event in 1983.
