Kasay Holbrook Gambrell was hired as the women's head golf coach in August of 2019.
Gambrell, who comes to Winthrop after serving as head coach at Presbyterian College (2015-19), becomes the fourth head coach in the 34-year history of the program.
"We're so lucky to have been able to identify a coach as talented as Kasay," said Halpin. "She has a positive, infectious attitude along with an entrepreneurial mindset. The future of our women's golf program is bright!"
Gambrell took over the program at Presbyterian College in 2014 after serving one year as an assistant for the Blue Hose. During her tenure the program finished 4th at the Big South Conference championship twice, including this past spring. The program also produced two medalist winners, including Celia Mansour top medalist at the 2017 conference championship with a record 9-under par.
"I would like to thank Ken Halpin and Matt Martin for giving me the opportunity to be the next women's golf coach," said Gambrell. "I am excited to be joining the Winthrop community and look forward to continuing the success of the women's golf program."
Gambrell graduated from PC in 2012 following one of the most distinguished careers in the history of the program. She earned Big South Conference Player of the Week three times and accumulated seven Top 10 finishes and set three individual school records.
