Steve Yang is in his first year as Director of Basketball Operations for the women’s basketball program..
As director of operations, Yang oversees Winthrop’s film exchange and equipment operations,
while coordinating team travel arrangements and assisting with the Eagles basketball camp operations.
“Steve is a quality individual and has a consistent work ethic that he brings each day,” said Winthrop
head coach Kevin Cook. “He is a perfect fit for our staff and brings a great skill set to our program. I
am pleased that he is dedicated to helping the Winthrop women’s basketball program be the best it can
be.”
Yang came to Winthrop after spending the past year at Missouri State as director of basketball
operations and four seasons as an assistant coach and video coordinator for the men’s basketball team
at Evangel University in Springfield, MO. Prior to Evangel, Yang served as a assistant at McCook
Community College in Nebraska during the 2007-08 season, and as the Varsity, JV and Junior High head
coach at Miami H.S. in Amoret, Mo., in 2006-07.
Yang has served as an instructor at basketball camps at Missouri State, Kansas, Marquette, Wisconsin, Evangel,
Minnesota and with Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks. Originally from Tulsa, Okla., Yang earned his
Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies from Missouri State in 2006, and followed that up with a
Master of Science in Administrative Studies and Sports Management from MSU in 2010.
