Chelsea Johnson

Chelsea Johnson is in her first year as director of basketball operations for women’s basketball.

As director of basketball operations, Johnson oversees Winthrop’s film exchange and equipment operations, coordinates team travel arrangements, and will assist with the summer basketball camps.

“I have known Chelsea since she was a sophomore in High School. She was driven to succeed then and is driven to succeed now,” said Winthrop head coach Kevin Cook.  “Chelsea is committed to putting in the long hours and she does it with high energy.  She is a great addition to our staff.”

Johnson, a native of Stafford, TX, came to Winthrop after serving the past two years as a student assistant in the athletic director’s office at her alma mater, the University of Arkansas-Monticello. While at UA-Monticello, she also served as a graduate assistant in the Office of Student Activities and as a resident’s hall director.

She was a member of the UA-Monticello women’s basketball team and served as team captain for three years (2010-12). Johnson earned All-Conference honors in 2012 and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).

Johnson earned a degree in business administration and management in 2012 before entering graduate school.
