Former University of Kentucky player Amani Franklin, a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, is in her first year as the Director of Basketball Operations for Winthrop women's basketball.
Â
Franklin was a four-year member of the Kentucky Wildcats team that reached the 2010 NCAA Tournament Elite 8. She received a bachelor's degree from UK in agricultural economics with a minor in business. She has been pursuing a master's degree in sports management from Morehead State University while serving as a staff support associate for the UK women's program where her duties have included management of the day-to-day operations, overseeing the women's basketball booster organization, travel arrangements, and special events.
Â
Following her collegiate career, Franklin played professional basketball in Germany and Finland from 2011 to 2013 until she joined the UK staff in 2014.
Â
"We are very happy to have Amani join our Winthrop staff," said Eagles head coach Kevin Cook. "Amani is a grinder and I like that she is a perfectionist who will add a lot to our program."
Â
Franklin says she is humbled and thankful for the opportunity that Cook has given her to be a part of his Winthrop staff. "He is a proven winner, not only at Winthrop but in the WNBA as well. I look forward to serving our student-athletes as we all work towards our goals for next season," she said.
