Randy Peele

Randy Peele is beginning his fifth year as  head men's basketball coach at Winthrop University following four years as an assistant coach for the Eagles. He led the Eagles to the 2008 and 2010 Big South Conference titles and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament in his first three years as head coach.  

He is the only coach in Big South history to lead two different schools to the NCAA tournament.  He accomplished that feat in 1996 while serving as head coach at UNC Greensboro, a former league member.

Peele served as head coach at UNCG from 1995 until 1999. While serving as an assistant at UNCG, the Spartans won two Big South titles and a conference tournament championship. In nine years as a Division I head coach, the Norfolk, Virginia native has proven himself to be a top-notch recruiter. Five of his recruits have gone on to earn conference rookie of the year honors. 

He also served as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech from 1999 to 2002, The 2002-03 recruiting class for Virginia Tech was voted among the nation’s Top 30.  He also served as an assistant  at St. Michael’s College in Vermont (1983-85), Tennessee-Martin (1985-88), Campbell (1988-1991) and UNCG (1991-1995).

Peele is a 1980 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan where he earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and history. He is married to the former Debra Carter and they have three children, Aaron, Brad, and Blair.
