Rashad Cunningham

Rashad Cunningham is in his first year as Winthrop's Director of Baseball Operations. He has coached baseball for 15 years on the junior high and high school levels as well as youth leagues and summer Showcase teams.

He first started his coaching career at Lancaster High School as a Varsity Assistant Coach. He then traveled across town to Buford High School where he coached six years as a Head Junior Varsity Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach. In 2015, he was named Assistant Head Coach/Pitching Coach at York Comprehensive High School. Cunningham has coached several U-16u to U-18 Showcase teams as well as  Dixie Majors (15-18 years old) teams.

He is currently the Recruiting Coordinator for Showcase Baseball Academy in Charlotte, NC, and the Head Coach of the SBA  U-17 Black. He has assisted 52 baseball players in obtaining baseball scholarships during his coaching career.  

In 2007, he led Lancaster American Legion Post 31 to its first-ever State Tournament appearance along with a League V Championship. He was honored with the Region V Coach of the Year Award and also The Lancaster News Coach of the Year Award.

Cunningham is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Economics and Criminal Justice. The Lancaster, SC,native is married to the former Julieta Jones, a Winthrop Alum.
