Jeff Stanek is entering his second season as Volunteer Coach for the Winthrop Eagles.
A native of Patton, PA, and a graduate of Duquesne University, Stanek spent the previous two seasons as the recruiting coordinator, hitting and catchers coach at Southeastern Community College in Iowa.
"Jeff is what I call a grinder, he has an outstanding work ethic and desire to learn," said head coach Tom Riginos. "Two qualities that makes you a successful coach. "I am very happy Jeff is apart of my staff."
During his tenure at SCC, the team went a combined 76-38 and spent a majority of the 2009 season ranked in the D-II NJCAA national polls, ranking as high as 9th. The team's 41 wins in 2009 were a school record. Under Stanek, SCC's offense hit .336 in 2008 and .339 in 2009, which was good enough to be ranked in the top 30 nationally both seasons. Several of his hitters at SCC received numerous athletic honors including one Third-Team All-America in 2008, and nine named All-Region in 2008 and 2009. Stanek was also in charge of the baseball camp at Southeastern as well as the field maintenance coordinator, and he performed administrative duties including commercial advertising, fundraising, and creating and maintaining the team website.
Prior to coaching at SCC, Stanek spent one year at Duquesne as the volunteer while he received his degree in journalism in May 2007. He spent the fall 2007 semester at Duquesne as the second assistant coach. In that time, he was in charge of the outfielders and catchers, and assisted with the hitters and overall offense. He also coordinated the baseball camps, performed administrative duties and helped with all field projects and daily maintenance.
Stanek is currently engaged to Amanda Kokemuller and resides in Rock Hill.
