Ben Hall is entering his second season with the Winthrop baseball team as an Assistant Coach.
Hall came to the Eagles in 2012 after spending the previous four seasons as an Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Wingate University in Wingate, NC. He worked primarily with the hitters and infielders, while being in charge of the team’s travel and academics.
“I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to join Coach Riginos’ staff and the Winthrop Athletics family,” said Hall. “Winthrop baseball has a proven track record of success and I am excited about the direction Coach Riginos has set for this baseball
program. I look forward to showing up to work every day with conference championships and NCAA Regionals in mind.”
In 2011, the Bulldogs posted a 34-22 overall record and won the South Atlantic Conference Tournament earning a bid to the Southeast Regional. Wingate had two hitters rank among the top players nationally in numerous offensive categories and earn multiple postseason awards. Dodson McPherson was among the top five in the nation in several categories and received First Team All-SAC and SAC Player of the Year. McPherson also picked up First Team All-Southeast Region, Southeast Region Player of the Year, First Team All-American by two publications and a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award which goes to the Player of the Year for Division II. Brian Yeung led the nation in doubles and was at the top of the list in home runs, total bases and hits. He received Second and Third Team All-American honors and was First Team All-Southeast Region.
Wingate hit .326 as team this past season with 60 home runs, 404 runs scored and 141 doubles. In 2010, the team posted a .321 average with 55 homers, 389 runs and 121 doubles.
Under Hall’s supervision in 2010, the Bulldogs had two players receive All-SAC recognition in second baseman Logan Issacs and shortstop Chris Vasquez. In 2009 first baseman Aaron Knowles was an All-SAC performer, while outfielder Casey Allison was the SAC Freshman of the Year and outfielder Mark Letchworth the SAC Player of the Year. Letchworth also received All-American honors.
Prior to joining Wingate in 2008, Hall served as the Student Assistant Coach at Clemson University under head coach Jack Leggett in 2007. While with the Tigers baseball program, he worked primarily with the hitters and infielders. Clemson made it to the NCAA Super Regional that season after going 41-23 overall and had a .971 fielding percentage.
“I am excited to announce Ben Hall as our new assistant baseball coach,” Riginos said. “Ben brings enthusiasm, toughness and a willingness to work extremely hard to the Winthrop baseball program. He will play a major role as we move the baseball program forward as one of the elite programs in the country.”
Hall played one season each at Stetson University and Daytona Beach Community College before transferring to the Tigers for his final two years of eligibility. With the Hatters, he hit .321 in 48 games and was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team. Hall would follow that performance by being named Second Team All-Conference at DBCC after hitting .323 with five home runs.
In his two seasons at Clemson he displayed success in the classroom earning ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition twice and was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams, including one NCAA College World Series squad in 2006. In 2005, Hall hit .319 with five doubles, one triple and one home run. The Tigers would capture the ACC Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2006, and Hall played a pivotal role during the ACC Tournament with his game-winning RBI single to beat then-No. 7 Georgia Tech.
Hall received his undergraduate degree in Sport Management from Clemson in 2007, and his Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from Wingate in 2009.
