Winthrop University Athletics

2010:  Made an appearance in 22 games as a freshman with one start, which came at Charlotte on Apr. 14. Posted a 2-4 record on the mound in 2010 with an 8.55 ERA in 40.0 innings pitched. Surrendered 46 runs (38 earned) on 59 hits, 19 walks, 35 strikeouts, and an opponent batting average of .343. Appeared in his first collegiate game against Northwestern on Feb. 19 and earned his first college win against Wagner on Feb. 26 in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning. Had a season-long appearance of 5.0 innings against Liberty on May 20 in which he allowed four earned runs on six hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Posted a career-high six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of relief against Canisius on Mar. 14 and also struck out five batters in his start against the 49ers. Also picked up his first save as an Eagle in a 12-11 win over UNC Asheville in 13 innings on Apr. 16. 

High School:  As a junior, he went 5-5 with a 1.90 ERA and striking out 85 in 68 innings of work. Voted All-Conference during his sophomore and junior seasons, as well as Honorable Mention All-State.   

Personal:  The son of Thomas and Marilyn Lawrence, Tommy is a History major who enjoys playing video games and fishing, and plans on playing professional baseball after graduation. His favorite foods are steak and macaroni and cheese, and Catcher In The Rye is his favorite book. Roger Clemens is his favorite athlete.
