Winthrop University Athletics

Young Harris College:  Redshirted during his freshman season at Young Harris in 2009. Named to the 2010 GJCAA First Team All-Conference as a redshirt-freshman. Selected to the Dean’s List in three semesters. Was one of only two players on the team to participate in the Young Harris Honors Program. Pitched under former Winthrop pitcher Jeremy Plexico at Young Harris College. 

High School:  As a junior at Greenbrier High School, he helped lead the program to its fifth state championship in 2007. During his senior season he threw 30.0 innings, striking out 29 batters and walking just 11.  

Personal:  The son of Phillip and Terri Knox, Mitchell is a Biology major who enjoys hunting, fishing, swimming and hanging out with friends, and plans on attending medical school and becoming a doctor, if baseball does not work out, after graduation. His favorite food is home cooking, and The Bible is his favorite book. John Smoltz is his favorite athlete.
