Winthrop University Athletics

2010:  Made an appearance in nine games as a sophomore with two starts, and compiled a record of 0-2 with a 12.83 ERA. Pitched in 13.1 innings and allowed 21 runs (19 earned) on 23 hits, eight walks, two strikeouts and opponents his .397 against him. Started his first game of the season against Harvard on Mar. 16 and threw a season-high 4.2 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits, three walks and one strikeout. Made only other start of the season at eventual national champion South Carolina on May 5. Against the Gamecocks, he pitched 1.1 inning and surrendered five runs (all earned) on six hits, one walk and no strikeouts. Struck out a season-high one batter in back-to-back appearances against the Crimson (Mar. 16) and at The Citadel (Mar. 24). Also threw 2.0 innings in first appearances of the season against Marist on Feb. 22.

2009:  Accumulated a 3-5 record with a 4.34 ERA in 16 appearances with 12 starts as a freshman. Pitched 66.1 innings allowing 32 earned runs, 16 walks and 34 strikeouts. Earned the victory at then-fifth ranked Georgia on Apr. 8 pitching 6.1 innings giving up one run on two hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Had a season-long outing of 7.2 innings against Georgia Southern on Mar. 18 while also picking up the win in a 5-2 Winthrop victory. Received his first collegiate victory against East Tennessee State on Mar. 4.  

High School:  Pitched for Morristown Beard High School. Earned county Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors in 2005, Second Team All-Prep in 2006 and First Team All-Prep in 2007. Had a 5-2 record during his junior season with an ERA of 1.17, striking out 88 batters in 77 innings of work, while walking only 11. Also pitched for the Mt. Morris American Legion team posting a 6-0 record with a 0.89 ERA, striking out 43 and issuing four walks in 38 innings on the mound. 

Personal:  The son of Bill and Lisa Monteith, Kenny is a Sport Management major who enjoys running, lifting weights and hanging out with friends and family, and plans on playing professional baseball after graduation. His favorite food is chicken and The Yankee Years is his favorite book. Ray Lewis is his favorite athlete.
