Women's Soccer Hosts Mercer in Crohn's & Colitis Awareness Game (Thurs.)

Rock Hill, S.C. -- Winthrop women's soccer returns home Thursday to host Mercer at 7 p.m. at Eagle Field. The Eagles are looking for their third win of the season and their first win over the Bears since 2003. Thursday will be the Crohn's & Colitis Awareness game as the team has partnered with the Chron's & Colitis Foundation Carolina Chapter to spread awareness and support those affected by the disease.

SERIES HISTORY VS. MERCER
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Eagles and Bears. Winthrop holds a 1-2 all-time record against Mercer, falling in last year's meeting, 4-2. Before that, the two teams hadn't faced each other since 2004 when the Eagles suffered a 4-0 defeat. However, Winthrop secured a 1-0 home victory over the Bears in the series debut on October 31, 2003.

  • Winthrop enters the game following a 1-0 loss to The Citadel on Sunday afternoon.
  • Mia Ruffalo recorded three saves on 12 shots faced and allowed one goal.
  • Cordelia McIntosh led the team in offensive attempts, tallying three shots, all of which were on target.
  • Zaria Winston contributed with a shot on goal, maintaining pressure on the opposing defense.
  • Monssi Avila-Gutierrez also added a shot on goal, pushing the attack forward.

Thursday's game will be the team's Crohn's and Colitis Awareness game. Winthrop women's soccer is proud to partner with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Carolina Chapter to help raise awareness and support those impacted by the disease, including junior midfielder Mia Silber. Silber has been an active member of the foundation since her diagnosis with the disease at 11 years old. She has participated in the "Take Steps Walk" throughout her teenage years in Chicago and has recently been involved in the Carolina Chapter, as she has become an advocate for those struggling with the disease. Come out to support us on Thursday as we play for our team, our community and everyone affected by Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
