ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Finishing off their non-conference slate, the Winthrop University volleyball team took down the visiting Queens Royals in four sets, in a matchup between the two squads for the first time since 1997.

Game Recap
Set 1
- The match got off to a heated back and forth start, with neither team gaining a significant advantage
- Kills from McCollum and Jolley opened the frame putting the Eagles ahead by five before the first media timeout
- Jolley and Sychterz worked together to snag the set-winning block. Eagles took frame one, 25-16
Set 2
- The Royals started the second frame strong, obtaining a 12-7 lead
- A Sychterz kill put the Eagles within two before the media timeout
- The Eagles found themselves in a hole late in the second frame, but stayed composed tied the set at 18
- A heated back and forth set found both teams equal at 26
- The Royals would take set two, 28-26
Set 3
- Both teams traded blows until the score sat at eight-apiece
- Winthrop was able to mount a three-point buffer, holding that mark until there was another tie in the scoring at 18-18
- Eagles took the next five out of six points, sitting within two points of the set, eventually taking the third stanza 25-22
Set 4
- Winthrop was able to get a 9-5 lead, thanks to efforts off the bench from KeAra Bowen and Reece Rhoads
- Queens fought back, taking their first lead of the set, 14-12.
- The Eagles then put together a momentum swinging run, taking seven of the next eight points
- Key kills from the Eagles helped Winthrop took the set and the match, 25-21
