Avery Jolley was named Big South Player of the Week, while setters
Isabella Murray and
Rachel McCollum shared Setter of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.
It marks the second career Player of the Week award for Jolley and the eighth career Setter of the Week honor for Murray.
Avery Jolley delivered a dominant performance, leading the Eagles with 52 kills across three games and averaging 4.73 kills per set while hitting at a .354 clip. She notched a career-high 24 kills against Furman on Saturday and added 27 digs on the weekend, ranking second on the team only to the libero with 2.45 digs per set. On serve reception, Jolley handled 87 attempts with just two errors for an impressive .977 mark. She also led the Eagles in total points (59.5) and points per set (5.41), and her efforts moved her into the top ten in Winthrop history for total attacks with 2,839.
Rachel McCollum and
Isabella Murray combined for 129 assists over the weekend, accounting for 85% of the Eagles' total. McCollum recorded a triple-double against Alabama State, the first for Winthrop since 2012, and nearly repeated the feat the next day against Furman, falling just one kill short. Over the weekend, Murray became the seventh Eagle in history to reach the 3,000 assists mark. Murray contributed 57 assists, averaging 8.14 per set in her seven sets played, while McCollum appeared in all 11 sets, tallying 72 assists for a 6.55 assists per set mark. McCollum also boosted the offense with 32 kills, averaging 2.91 per set, and added 25 digs on the defensive side, ranking third on the team with 2.27 per set.
