HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UNC Asheville took a 1-0 lead on Johnson's RBI double down the left field line with two outs in the top of the first
  • Winthrop responded by going out in front 2-1 in their half of the first as Cole Yearsley was walked in with the bases loaded and Chronis being hit by a pitch on the next play
  • Both plays occurred with two outs
  • Minarik homered to left center field with one out in the top of the second to tie the score at 2-2 and in the next inning with one out Johnson's RBI double to left field brought in Lowe and put the Bulldogs ahead by one
  • The visitors then tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth to extend their margin to 7-3
  • Winthrop cut it to three on Hernandez's groundout in the bottom of the fourth but the Bulldogs took it back up to four in the top of the fifth on Minarik's groundout
  • Eagles threatened in the bottom of the fifth as they loaded the bases but a strikeout and a fielder's choice ended the inning
  • Minark's RBI double to right center field with one out in the top of the seventh scored McGinnis and made the score 9-3 in favor of UNC Asheville
  • But the Eagles came storming all the way back, scoring eight straight runs in the bottom of the stanza to take a 11-9 lead
  • Chronis drew a walk with the bases loaded with one out to put the Eagles in the lead
  • Then two plays later with two outs McCallum's RBI single made it a two-run game drove in Koby Kropf and extended the margin to two
