Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a loss at Furman in the regular-season finale this past Saturday, Winthrop will travel to Wofford to take on the Terriers in the first round of the Big South Tournament on Tuesday, Apr. 29.
A LOOK AT WOFFORD
- This will be the 7th meeting between the two schools, with the series tied 3-3
- The first meeting was on Mar. 22, 2018 at home with the Eagles winning 20-7 on the way to winning the first three games from 2018-2022
- The Terriers have won the last three meetings
- Winthrop's last win in the series was a 20-14 margin in Spartanburg on Apr. 23, 2022
- During the regular season, the Terriers defeated Winthrop 14-7 in Spartanburg on Apr. 9
- In their most recent game, Wofford defeated Presbyterian 15-9 on the road this past Saturday
- With the victory, the Terriers set a new single-season record for wins with eight
- They also secured a home game in the Big South Tournament for the first time in school history

- Winthrop concluded the regular-season with a loss to the Paladins on the road Saturday afternoon
- Winthrop finishes regular season competition 4-4 in Big South play, their most wins in the conference since 2019 when the Eagles also won four Big South games
- Eagles end the regular-season with six wins, their most wins in a season up to this point since 2021 when the Eagles won seven games

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES
- Winthrop is coming off a 2-13 (2-6 Big South) record in 2024
- Eagles are ranked seventh in the Big South preseason poll and are in their first season under interim head coach Hannah Potter
- Potter is Winthrop's fourth head coach in program history
- Eagles welcome 12 newcomers to the squad and assistant coach Jordan Bowers
- Eagles also return 18 players, seven of whom played in all 15 contests last season
- Junior Scarlet Cifarelli is the only returnee who finished in the Top 5 in goals scored last season with 13
- She also led the Eagles in assists last season with 20 and was second on the team in points with 33 and fifth in shots on goal with 18
- Emma Calhoun, Lily Davis, Gabby Pierpont and Madison Mayer were all in the Top 5 in ground balls in 2024
- Mayer also led the team in caused turnovers with 13 and draw controls with 67, resulting in her being named Honorable Mention by the Big South Conference
- Davis and Grace Herrero were close behind in the Top 5 in draw controls with 11 and eight, respectively
- Calhoun, Tori Iannotti, Chloe Patterson and Pierpont were one of six players representing the program on the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team
- With the selection of these six, they were the first ever academic all-district selections in lacrosse for the Eagles
- Eagles are 108-117 all-time as a program
- Eagles are 55-45 all-time at home
- Eagles are 48-41 all-time in Big South play
- Eagles last appeared in the Big South Tournament in 2022, falling at Furman 16-13 on Apr. 30

SEASON HONORS
- Christina Warren-Big South Freshman of the Week-Mar. 18
- In her first career start, Warren scored a game-high seven goals to lead Winthrop to an 18-17 comeback win over Merrimack
- She converted all four free-position attempts and added one ground ball and one caused turnover
- Warren scored twice in the first half, added another in the third quarter, and netted four in the fourth, including the game-tying goal with 58 seconds remaining to force overtime
- She scored on seven of her 10 shots, nine of which went on target

- Warren totaled 10 points on nine goals and one assist across two games for Winthrop
- She led the team with six goals and an assist at Old Dominion, including a first-quarter hat trick and two fourth-quarter goals
- On Sunday against California, she added another hat trick, scoring twice in a 26-second span in the second quarter and again late in the third to pull the Eagles within two
- She finished the week with a .529 shot percentage and recorded two draw controls
INDIVIDUAL SINGLE SEASON TIDBITS
- Warren has seven man-up goals so far this season and is now the leader for most man-up goals scored in a season in school history
CAREER LEADERS
- Scarlet Cifarelli is currently 5th all-time in school history in assists (currently has 59)
- Cifarelli has entered the Top 10 in career points with 128
- Cifarelli now has 132 shots and 108 shots on goal in her career
- Cifarelli and Warren both have moved into a tie for 7th in school history in career man-up goals with seven
- Cifarelli also needs one more game-winning goal to move into a tie for 7th in school history in that area
- Gabby Pierpont now has 95 draw controls and 55 groundballs in her career
- Pierpont and Cifarelli both need one more man-down goal to move into a tie for 3rd in school history
- Madison Mayer now has 128 draw controls in her career
- Tori Iannotti has now gone over 50 draw controls in her career (currently has 84)
- Emma Calhoun now has 217 saves in her career
- This is good for 4th in school history in saves and needs eight more to move into 3rd in school history
- Calhoun has moved into a tie for 4th in school history in goalie victories with six
