Radford, Va. – Winthrop softball earned a split in a doubleheader at Radford Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap after falling 2-1 in the first game.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
	- Eagles had a runner in scoring position in the top of the first as Megan Powell singled to left and moved to second on an error on the play but was stranded
- Radford got its first base runner in the fourth inning and Tia Beckham made a running catch in left center to end the inning to keep the game scoreless
- Eagles threatened again in the fifth inning as Grayson Buckner and Emma Jackson walked
- Katie Beck stepped in and drove a ball to right field but straight at the right fielder to end the threat
- Radford grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Isabel Harrison provided the team's first hit of the game with a double to left center that scored Grace Bechtol from second
- In the top of the seventh, the Eagles were down to their final out when Emmy Cardenas came in to pinch-hit and delivered a solo home run to left center to tie the game
- In the bottom of the eighth inning a walk followed by a double to right center put runners at second and third for the Highlanders with one out
- Bechtol stepped in and singled up the middle to plate Klara Vanbeuge for the walk-off win, 2-1
Game 2
	- Eagles struck in the bottom of the fifth for a 1-0 lead
- Cardenas was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and replaced by pinch-runner Emma Roberson
- Lonna Addison walked to put runners and first and second with no outs
- Madelyn Miller hit a grounder up the middle that was kept from going to the outfield by the diving second baseman but Roberson kept running on the play and scored ahead of the throw home
- Eagles doubled their lead in the top of the sixth as Powell hit a one out home run to left
- Radford got a one out single in the bottom of the seventh and then a two out walk by Bechtol
- Harrison pulled a pitch down the right field line as Abby Bossler came around to score and Bechtol tried to score on the play but Katie Beck's throw from right field was ahead of Bechtol as Ashlyn Bunn applied the tag for the final out
- Addison earned her 10th win in the circle as she allowed the one run on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
	- Both games were decided by one run, which the Eagles are now 7-6 in one run games this season
- Eagle pitching on the day allowed just three runs on nine total hits with five walks and five strikeouts
- The home run by Powell was her 15th as an Eagle and 36th of her collegiate career
ON DECK
Winthrop is back in action Wednesday, Apr. 23 in Columbia, S.C. for a midweek contest at nationally-ranked South Carolina. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.
