Johnson City, Tenn. – Mya Pierfax led the Eagles with a career-high 21 points as Winthrop fell to High Point by a final score of 64-49 in the semifinals of the Hercules Tire Big South Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday evening.

How it Happened
First Quarter | The two teams had split the first eight points by the 8:44 mark. After a basket by the Panthers,
Mya Pierfax personally scored the next five Eagle points in a one-minute time span for a 9-6 lead with 4:29 left in the frame. Then
Marissa Gasaway's jumper with 3:15 remaining in the quarter gave Winthrop a 12-11 lead. The Panthers responded by ending the quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 19-12 lead.
Second Quarter | High Point outscored Winthrop 17-9 to take a 36-21 lead at the break. Their defense held Winthrop to just three field goals in the frame.
Third Quarter | Winthrop came out hot to start the second half, outscoring the Panthers 12-5 in the first five and a half minutes, cutting the lead to 41-33. They also held High Point scoreless for three minutes. Pierfax would score seven of the 12 Eagle points during the run. But the Panthers concluded the quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 49-35 lead.
Fourth Quarter | Pierfax scored three points for the Eagles in the first two and a half minutes of the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 11. But an 11-0 run by the Panthers stretched their lead to 22 with 4:12 left. Winthrop would then close the game strong with an 11-4 finish.
