Eagles Fall To Notre Dame Wednesday Afternoon, 12-3

Rock Hill, S.C. – Eagles fell to Notre Dame in the second game of a two-game series with the Fighting Irish Wednesday afternoon, 12-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Notre Dame took a 5-0 lead at the end of the second on Davis Johnson's RBI double down the right field line, Brady Gumpf's RBI single to left field and Nick DeMarco's three-run home run
  • In the next frame Johnson came in to score on an error with two outs
  • Winthrop nearly got on the board in the bottom of the third with runners on second and third but Alan Benhardt struck out to end the threat
  • Noah Coy's sac fly to left field brought in Jayce Lee and made the score 7-0 in the fifth
  • Lee then tripled to center field to drive in three runs and Gumpf's sac fly to left field brought in Lee and put Notre Dame up double digits in the sixth
  • Eagles got on the board as Harrison Wilson came in to score on a passed ball with one out in the bottom of the stanza
  • Winthrop cut a little more into the lead in the seventh as the Irish walked in Chazz Grossington with the bases loaded with one out and on the next play H. Wilson reached on a fielder's choice to score Josh Skowronski
  • Jared Zimbardo homered to left field in the eighth to make it 12-3 and ultimately wrap up the scoring for the day
