Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop men's golf picked up two honors this week as
Jeff Nelson was tabbed as the Big South Conference Golfer of the Week and
Dallas Johnson earned Freshman of the Week honors, announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Nelson took medalist honors at the Dorado Beach Collegiate as he finished 11-under. Nelson opened the event with the second-lowest round by an Eagle in program history at 7-under. After an even par second round he closed out the event with a 3-under 69 to capture first place. Nelson was tied for second among the field in Par 4 scoring (-4). He tied for the second-best 54-hole total (205) in program history.
Johnson had his best finish as an Eagle in three career starts with a T20 finish. Johnson closed out the event with a collegiate-low round of 5-under 67 to move into a Top 20 finish. He finished second on the team with 11 birdies.
This is the second time this year the Eagles captured both honors in the same week. On Oct. 10, 2024
Ashton Eubanks earned Golfer of the Week honors and
Thomas Lamar was the Freshman of the Week.
