Kropf Drills Two-Run Blast In Narrow Loss To South Carolina

Rock Hill, S.C. – Koby Kropf drilled a two-run home run as Winthrop dropped a narrow contest to South Carolina at home Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kennedy Jones got the scoring started in the top of the first with a two-run blast to left field with two outs to put the visiting Gamecocks ahead first
  • Winthrop immediately punched back in their half of the frame with a two-run shot of their own with one out as Koby Kropf went yard to left field to knot the contest at 2-2
  • South Carolina put runners on the corners after KJ Scobey's fielder's choice but Blake Jackson grounded into a double play to end the top of the fourth
  • In the bottom of the fourth Winthrop took their first lead of the game with one out as Ethan Wilson came in to score on Gabe Natividad's fielder's choice
  • The Gamecocks re-took the lead 4-3 in the upper half of the fifth on Talmadge LeCroy's two-run RBI double down the left field line with two outs
  • South Carolina extended their lead to two runs in the next inning on Nathan Hall's RBI double to right field, again with two outs
  • Down 5-3, Winthrop put guys on first and second with two outs after Natividad was hit by a pitch but Colin Crowley struck out to end the game

Winthrop welcomes Villanova to Founders Field for a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 21 at 3:00 p.m. This series will wrap up a seven-game homestand to start the 2025 season. The Sunday game against the Wildcats will be shown on ESPN+.
