MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Winthrop University women's basketball team dropped its season opener at Marquette, 89-57, Monday at the Al McGuire Center. Amourie Porter led the Eagles with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Mya Pierfax added 13 points with three 3-pointers. Ryiah Wilson chipped in eight points (2-for-2 from deep) and two steals as Winthrop finished 6-for-20 from three and collected nine steals.

First Quarter 
	- Marquette scored the game's first six points and led 9–2 after a Lee Volker 3-pointer and two Jaidynn Mason free throws. 
 
	- Madison Ruff put Winthrop on the board in transition with a driving layup at 8:21. 
 
	- Back-to-back threes by the Golden Eagles' Skylar Forbes stretched the margin to 18-4 with 3:06 left. 
 
	- Tocarra Johnson beat the buzzer with a tip-in, but Marquette took a 23-6 lead after one. 
 
Second Quarter 
	- Cori Lard hit a jumper, and Pierfax converted a steal into a fast-break layup to cut it to 25-10 at 7:47. 
 
	- Porter steadied the offense with a free throw, a 3-pointer, and a pull-up jumper. 
 
	- Ryiah Wilson sparked a late push with a wing three followed by a fast-break layup at 1:21. 
 
	- Marquette closed the half at the line for a 44-23 advantage. 
 
Third Quarter 
	- Ruff scored at the rim to open the half, and Naomi Wilson added a layup, but a 10-2 Marquette surge made it 55-27 at 7:04. 
 
	- Ryiah Wilson buried another three, and Porter completed a three-point play at 3:12 to keep pace. 
 
	- Pierfax drilled a right-wing three and later beat the horn with a deep buzzer-beater to end the period. 
 
	- Marquette carried a 74-44 lead to the fourth. 
 
Fourth Quarter 
	- Porter cashed in two early trips to the line and Lard added two free throws. 
 
	- Uniyah Franklin hit a mid-range jumper at 3:01 as Winthrop continued to chip away. 
 
	- Lard sliced to the rim for a late layup with :19 remaining. 
 
	- Marquette closed it out, 89-57.
