Talford, Jones III Earn Big South Weekly Honors

Rock Hill, S.C. -- Senior forward Kelton Talford and freshman guard Paul Jones III were named Big South Player of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Talford, who is averaging 15.4 PPG and 7.9 RPG on the season so far, put up 21 points and 10 rebounds in a narrow loss to Gardner-Webb on Jan. 6. He followed up his double-double performance with a 17 point and 9 rebound performance in a blowout victory over Longwood on Jan. 11. This past week, Talford surpassed 1,600 career points and sits at 1,631 points and 822 rebounds. He is only 1 of 10 active D1 players with 1,600 points and 800 rebounds. He now sits only 29 points behind 4th on the Winthrop men's basketball all-time scoring list. This is Talford's third Big South Player of the Week honor of his career and first on the season.

Jones III, who is averaging 9.7 PPG and shooting over 40% from the field, recorded 24 points on 55% shooting from behind the arc. Jones III tallied 22 of his 24 points in the first half and leads the team with 38 three pointers, which is tied for the fifth most by a freshman in Winthrop history. In the decisive victory over Longwood, he made 6 of his 11 attempts from three and brought down three rebounds. This is his first Big South weekly honor.
