Boone, N.C. – Winthrop's cross country teams opened the 2024 season by competing at the App State Covered Bridge Open on Friday morning.

Winthrop Highlights
- On the women's side (5k), freshman Anna Conrad made her Eagle debut, placing 46th with a time of 19:23.89, resulting in Winthrop's top individual finish in the event.
- Junior Olivia Kemp was 51st with a mark of 19:34.54.
- Senior Morgan Ruff was 73rd with a time of 20:27.24.
- Freshman Connor Magill competed for the first time in the Garnet and Gold.
- Both him and senior Noah Woodbury tied for 52nd, resulting in Winthrop's top finish on the men's side (6k).
- Sophomores Ivan Diaz and Caleb Selph placed 73rd and 77th, respectively to round on the top three in the men's event.
