Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop fell 5-1 to top-seeded USC Upstate in the winner take all Big South Conference Championship game, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Upstate broke through first, putting two across in the third inning
- Amie Johnson singled with one out and then stole second
- Two batters later Alanna Deal pulled an 0-1 pitch over the field in left for a 2-run homer and the lead
- Spartans added three more runs in the fourth with the big hit coming from Emily Stern with an RBI double
- Winthrop broke through in the sixth as Paige Rivas drew a leadoff walk and two batters later Emma Jackson walked while Paige Rivas moved to third on the play
- KaDedra Temple grounded out to third to drive home Paige Rivas to make it a 5-1 lead for Upstate
- Ashton VanHouse, Temple and Mackenzie Smith were all named to the Big South All-Tournament Team
EXTRA BASES
- Winthrop was in its 14th championship appearance and first since 2019
- Basinger finishes the season with 135 strikeouts and 477 in her career (trailing 6th place all-time by five)
- Peyton Rivas led the Eagles with six hits in the conference tournament while Ansley Lee led the team with four RBI
- VanHouse and Paige Rivas finish their Eagle career tied for 3rd all-time in stolen bases with 68
- Paige Rivas finishes with 147 career hits as an Eagle which is 26th on the all-time hit list
- Grayson Buckner finished the tournament with a team-high four runs
