Charlie Evans Hits Two Home Runs, Eagles Win Fourth Straight

Rock Hill, S.C. – Charlie Evans hit two home runs as the Eagles won their fourth straight game by a 9-6 final score over Appalachian State on Friday afternoon. With the win, Winthrop moves to 6-7 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charlie Evans hit a leadoff home run to right field to get the scoring started.
  • Drew Holderbach tied things up in the second with a homer of his own to left field.
  • Harrison Wilson drilled a two-run shot to right field in the Eagle half of the second to break the tie.
  • Austin St. Laurent homered to left field in the third to make the score 3-2 Winthrop.
  • Winthrop increased their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the inning with three runs.
  • Neither team scored for the next two and a half innings.
  • Will Dorrell drilled Winthrop's third homer of the day, this one a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the sixth.
  • CJ Boyd hit a home run for the Mountaineers to center field in the seventh, making the score 8-3 in favor of the Eagles.
  • The visitors did it again in the next inning, cutting the lead to 8-4 with a solo home run by Banks Tolley to left field.
  • Evans hit his second homer of the day to right field in the bottom of the eighth.
  • App State cut the lead to 9-6 on a two-run RBI triple by St. Laurent in the ninth to end the scoring.
