Rock Hill, S.C. – Nick Johnson's game-high 14 point led three players in double-figures as Winthrop cruised to a 67-46 victory over Charleston Southern, Wednesday evening.

FIRST HALF
- Neither team was able to get shots to fall for nearly seven minutes into the game as the game was tied 4-4 at the 13:09 mark
- Two free throws by Sin'Cere McMahon triggered a 6-0 spurt over the next minute as Nick Johnson dropped in a floater in the lane and McMahon stole the ball and then connected with Kelton Talford for an emphatic alley-oop on the break
- That spurt turned into a 10-0 run when Chase Claxton drilled a three and then went 1-of-2 at the foul line to lead 14-4 with 9:43 to play
- An offensive put back by Quentin Bolton Jr. ended the run as the Eagles
- Eagles ended the half on an 8-0 run ignited by two threes from McMahon to lead 35-13 at the half
SECOND HALF
- An early 8-0 run by the Eagles pushed their lead to 29 points at the 16:59 mark
- The run started with a K.J. Doucet triple, followed by an And-1 from Doucet (free throw was good) to lead 41-14
- Then Alex Timmerman capped the run with a basket inside
- Eagles pushed their lead to 30-plus on a couple of occasions and cruised to the 21-point victory
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- For the game, the Eagles shot 42 percent from the floor and held Charleston Southern to 29 percent
- Eagles were 7-for-24 behind the arc and the Bucs were 5-for-23
- Winthrop forced 20 turnovers while committing 12 and had a 13-6 advantage in points off turnovers
- Charleston Southern won the battle on the glass 42-39 as the Bucs had 16 offensive boards and the Eagles had 11
- Sin'Cere McMahon's 13 points led an Eagle bench that scored 38 points
NOTABLES
- The 13 points were the lowest the Eagles held an opponent in a half since holding Toccoa Falls to 13 on Nov. 29, 2022
- It is the lowest points allowed in a half against a conference opponent since holding Charleston Southern to 10 points on Feb. 24, 2009 in a 57-52 victory
- This is the fewest points the Eagles have held a Big South opponent since they held Radford to 47 points on Feb. 12, 2021
- This was the 9th straight win over Charleston Southern in the series and the fourth straight at home
- The victory gave Winthrop its 400th home victory at the D1 level and it was the 200th home Big South regular season victory (200-91)
- It was also the 10th home victory for the season, the 12th straight season winning 10 or more at home
