Eagles Head To North Charleston For Re-Match With Buccaneers Wednesday Night

Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off recording their 10th win of the season with a sweep of UNC Asheville at home by a final score of 65-56 on Saturday afternoon, Winthrop women's basketball (10-12, 4-5 Big South) looks to pick up their second straight win on Wednesday night with a road trip to Charleston Southern.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
This is the 33rd meeting between the Eagles and the Buccaneers with Charleston Southern leading the series, 34-32. The first meeting between the two teams was on Jan. 9, 1991, with Winthrop winning 79-54 at home on the way to winning the first three meetings. Charleston Southern won 21 of the next 27 meetings. Winthrop has since won 23 of the last 36 meetings, including a streak of eight straight wins from 2008-2011. Winthrop will be seeking their first win vs. Charleston Southern since a 56-43 result on Feb. 15, 2022 on the road. In the most recent meeting, Winthrop fell to Charleston Southern by a final score of 63-54 on Jan. 24 at the Winthrop Coliseum.

BIG SOUTH WEEKLY HONORS
  • Marissa Gasaway-Big South Player of the Week (Dec. 4)
  • Averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games.
  • Opened the week with a career-high 20 points and 16 rebounds in an overtime setback to UNC Wilmington, her second double-double of the season.

LOOKING AHEAD
Winthrop returns to Rock Hill to begin a two-game home stand, starting with Longwood on Sat., Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. on ESPN+. The Eagles will be looking for a regular-season sweep of the Lancers after a 58-53 win on the road back on Jan. 3.
