Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop men's basketball suffered a 78-55 loss to Presbyterian College, Wednesday evening inside the Winthrop Coliseum.
WINTHROP (16-12, 7-6 Big South)

- Marquis Barnett (19 points, 7 rebounds, assist, block, 2 steals)

FIRST HALF
- K.J. Doucet opened the scoring as he muscled his way in traffic and dropped in a short jumper
- Eagles took an early 4-0 lead as Kasen Harrison found Kelton Talford for an emphatic dunk
- Winthrop made its first six shots of the game and a Micheal Anumba three gave the Eagles a 13-9 lead at the first media timeout (15:28)
- Eagles led by four on a couple of occasions and had its largest lead at the 8:07 mark when Harrison got a short jumper in the lane to fall and a 25-19 lead
- Doucet capped off a 7-0 run to push the lead to nine points and 28-19 as he buried a transition three from the wing
- PC responded with a 12-0 run to take the lead at 31-28 with 3:34 to play
- The run started with a Car Parrish layup on the break and ended with two free throws from Marqueis Barnett
- Winthrop tied the game at 31-31 when Sin'Cere McMahon drained a three from the left wing
- Blue Hose made their final four shots of the half and built a 43-36 advantage at the break
- Winthrop shot 64 percent from the floor, but committed 10 turnovers and PC had nine second chance points on nine offensive boards
SECOND HALF
- Blue Hose opened the half on a 6-0 run which started with a layup by Scott on the first possession and led 49-36 in the early stages
- Eagles trimmed the deficit back to single digits at nine after Anumba and Alex Timmerman scored at the rim
- Eagles trailed by nine with 12:40 to play after a dunk inside by Talford and 10 points with 8:39 to play after Timmerman scored inside
- Following the Timmerman basket PC reeled off six straight points and pushed its lead to as much as 21 points with 3:45 remaining after a Samage Teel three
- Eagles couldn't get shots to fall in the second half, finishing 28 percent from the floor
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Winthrop finished the game shooting 43 percent while the Blue Hose shot 53 percent
- PC won the battle in the paint 50-34 and had a 17-11 advantage in points off turnovers
- PC outrebounded the Eagles 35-29 but second chance points were even at 13-13
- Eagles were 5-for-19 behind the arc while the Blue Hose were 6-for-19
NOTABLES
- Kelton Talford finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds to record the 13th double-double of his career
