Eagles Fall To Blue Hose In Big South Quarterfinals

Rock Hill, SC. – Winthrop men's soccer falls 2-1 to Presbyterian College, Wednesday night in the Big South Conference quarterfinals.

Game Recap
  • Eagles struck early with a goal by Ethan Marks in the seventh minute
  • Borris Nguelle served a ball into the box in front of goal, Marks first touch opened space and he turned and fired a shot past the keeper into the top part of the goal
  • Emory Crichlow tried to double the Eagles lead in the 55th minute as he fired a shot from just outside the box to the lower left corner but Loan Marin made a diving save
  • PC scored two goals within a two minute span to grab the lead in the 68th minute
  • The first goal came in the 67th minute when Morgan Dance set up Sandro Rabarivony with a pass in front of goal at the edge of the six and he beat Jack Kilstrom with a first touch shot
  • The second goal came in the 68th minute as McGregor-Wickham played a ball in front of goal as Damorney Hutchison ran on and placed a left footed shot toward the right side of the goal to lead 2-1
  • Rodrigo Ferreira nearly tied the match in the 74th minute as he collected a clearance off a corner, dribbled to his right and then fired a shot to the lower left corner that Marin just pushed wide off a diving save
  • Eagles continued to press, but were unable to connect in the final third

Foot Notes
  • PC had a 13-12 edge in total shots and 6-4 in shots on goal
  • Each team finished with five corners
  • Kilstrom had four saves in the game while Marin finished with three
