Rock Hill, S.C. – Kelton Talford posted a double-double of 18 points, 13 rebounds to lead Winthrop to an 87-65 victory over LIU, Monday evening inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

FIRST HALF
- LIU opened the scoring as Blake Lander boarded a miss and finished at the rim
- It was 5-0 LIU after Lander drilled a right win three
- Nick Johnson scored the first Eagle basket as he rebounded a missed three and scored on a layup
- LIU led 7-2 when Kelton Talford got the ball the in post, spun the defender and laid it in
- That sparked an 8-0 run highlighted by back-to-back steals leading to buckets on the other end to lead 10-7
- Leading 14-13, Talford scored inside again and then after no buckets were made over the next four possession Talford pushed the ball ahead to K.J. Doucet for the layup and foul
- Doucet completed the three-point play at the 10:49 mark to give Winthrop a 19-13 advantage
- Eagles grabbed a seven point lead at the 9:44 mark as Isaiah Wilson found Tommy Kamarad open for three
- The lead grew to double-digits with 3:46 on the clock as Harrison found Bryce Baker in the corner for a three and a 34-23 lead
- LIU immediately answered as Xinyi Li connected on a triple from the left wing
- Eagles led by 10 with under a minute to play as Harrison kicked the ball to the left win and Doucet pulled up and drilled a three for the largest lead of the game
- That lead stood for the halftime lead at 44-31 as the Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor and scored 26-of-44 points in the paint
SECOND HALF
- Doucet scored off the drive 12 seconds into the second half for a 15 point lead
- Both teams continued to battle on both ends of the court but the Eagles maintained their double-digit lead and were ahead 56-42 lead after Wilson knocked down two free throws with 11:58 to play
- A three-point play by Nick Johnson at the 7:17 mark put the Eagles on top by 20 at 68-48
- The lead was down to 18 with 5:21 to play but a baseline dunk by Doucet put the Eagles back up by 20 for the rest of the way
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Talford posted his 15th double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds
- Doucet scored 17 points and has been in double-figures in all eight games
- Eagles finished the game shooting 51 percent from the floor and held the Sharks to 41 percent
- Sharks had a 42-40 edge on the glass and had 20 offensive boards that led to 20 points
- Eagles finished with 13 offensive rebounds leading to 15 points
- Winthrop had a 50-40 advantage in points in the paint
- Winthrop's first 18 points of the game all came in the paint
- Eagles turned 17 turnovers into 23 points while only committing 10 that led to nine points for LIU

- Doucet surpassed 1,400 career points and is now sitting at 1,409
- Talford is now seven points away from 5th all-time in career points and eight rebounds away from 3rd all-time
- The Eagles attempted 32 free throws in the game, the fourth time this season they've attempted 30 or more and have attempted 22 or more in 7-of-8 games
- Winthrop had 12 steals in the game, reaching 10 or more steals in a game for the 5th time this year
- Eagles had 10 blocks, which is the first game with double-digit blocks since Feb. 2018 when the team had 10 at High Point
- It is the first game with 10 or more blocks and 10 or more steals since Jan. 7, 2010 vs. VMI
- Tai Hamilton finished with four blocks, tying his career-high
