Eagles Set To Host And Compete At NCAA Southeast Regional Championships Friday

Rock Hill, S.C. – The Winthrop cross country programs will compete Friday at the NCAA Southeast Regional championships at the Winthrop Farm.

  • Winthrop men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Big South Championships two weeks ago on Friday, Nov. 1 in Charleston, S.C.
  • On the women's side (5K), freshman Anna Conrad was the top runner for the Eagles with a personal best time of 18:47
  • Sophomore Kayah Marques had the second best time with a personal best mark of 18:55
  • Freshman Ella Collins placed third individually for Winthrop with a time of 19:11
  • Junior Olivia Kemp and sophomore Alexis Taylor rounded out the Top 5 runners in the Garnet and Gold with times of 19:19 and 19:34, respectively
  • On the men's side (8K), graduate student Jason Krell placed 20th overall with a personal best time of 25:26, resulting in the top individual finish for the Eagles
  • Sophomore Ivan Diaz had the second best mark for Winthrop with a personal best time of 27:09
  • Junior Logan Rangnow and sophomore Caleb Selph placed third and fourth individually for the Eagles
  • Freshman Jack Myatt made his Eagle debut with a time of 29:57, placing fifth for the Garnet and Gold
  • Sophomore Chadwick Sisson and Kemp were named to the All-Academic Team
  • This is Sisson's first placement on the All-Academic Team and becomes Winthrop's 25th All-Academic performer on the men's side
  • This is Kemp's second straight All-Academic placement and she becomes Winthrop's 29th All-Academic honoree on the women's side
SEASON HONORS
Daren Hinds-Big South Conference Men's CC Runner of the Week-Oct. 10-13
  • Hinds cruised to a 45-second victory over the 8k course with a time of 24:57 at the Sand Shark Invitational in Hardeeville, S.C. on Saturday, Oct. 13, leading the men's squad to a runner-up finish in the 14-team field
  • This was Hinds' second first place finish in his career
  • He won the 8k with a time of 25:33.6 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational back on Sep. 30, 2023
Connor Magill-Big South Conference Men's CC Freshman of the Week-Oct. 10-13
  • Magill finished 25th in the 8k field of the Sand Shark Cross Country Invitational
  • He was the sixth Eagle to finish on the day, and the team's fastest underclassman with a time of 27:14
Anna Conrad-Big South Conference Women's CC Freshman of the Week-Oct. 10-13
  • Conrad led the Eagles to the team title of the 15-team Sand Shark Invitational last Saturday in Hardeeville, S.C. with her team-best fifth-place finish
  • She completed the 5k course with a time of 18:52
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • On the men's side, sophomore Diaz gets his first taste of regional competition while Hinds, Krell, Woodbury and Weisdorfer look to continue their strong seasons
  • On the women's side, Conrad, Collins, Dooney and Raso will compete in regionals for the first time in the Garnet and Gold while Kemp, Marques and Ruff look to continue their impressive seasons
  • Spectators will need to enter the Winthrop Farm from the Eden Terrace entrance. Parking is $10 per vehicle, but admission to the event is free
  • There will be restrooms on site and food trucks/vendors

  • The food trucks/vendors are: Rock Hill Coffee Roasters; DonutNV Rock Hill; Freddy's; Pelicans and Cousins Maine Lobster Charlotte
GLANCE AT THE REGIONAL
  • The 2024 NCAA Southeast Regional Championship will feature Division I teams from Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia and is arguably the deepest region in the country
  • All 50 states are divided into nine regions with the top two teams in each race automatically advancing to next week's NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisc.
  • At-large teams and individuals are selected by the NCAA committee and will earn a spot to compete at next week's championships
  • On the women's side, North Carolina, Virginia, and NC State enter Friday's championships as the Top 3 teams in the region and will contend for the team title
  • Grace Hartman (NC State) is coming off an ACC individual title and will look to contend for the crown on Friday morning
  • Followed closely is likely to be Silvia Jelego (Clemson), Fatima Alanis (North Carolina), and Teresa Cherotich (South Carolina)
  • On the men's side, Wake Forest and North Carolina are the two front-running teams looking to secure an automatic bid to next week's national championship
  • Gary Martin (Virginia) is coming off a decisive victory at the ACC Championships and will look to contend for Friday's individual title
  • Not to be overlooked is North Carolina duo Parker Wolfe and Ethan Strand who will also look to compete for the top finishing spot
  • Expect Luke Tewalt (Wake Forest) to also be in the mix for a top finish

-     Competed in two events for the Eagles in the regular-season

-     Named the Big South Conference Men's CC Runner of the Week for meets ran from Oct. 10-13
 
Jason Krell:
  • Krell is a graduate transfer from the University of Louisville
  • He finished second for the Eagles in two races so far this year and finished 4th overall at the Sand Shark Invitational on October 1
  • He placed 20th overall with a personal best time of 25:26, resulting in the top individual finish for the Eagles at the Big South Championships two weeks ago on Nov. 1 in Charleston, S.C.
Noah Woodbury:
-     Is a senior from Summerville, S.C.
-     Competed in two events this year
-     Had personal best times in both of those races
-     Finished with a time of 20:20 in the 6k at the Covered Bridge Open on Aug. 30 and 26:30 in the 8k at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12, placing 9th overall
 
Nolan Weisdorfer:
-     Is a senior from Holly, Mich.
-     Competed in four events for the Eagles this season
-     Set a personal best time in the 8k at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12 with a mark of 26:58
 
Ivan Diaz:
  • Is a sophomore from Columbia, S.C.
  • Diaz finished 9th at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational on October 18 and finished in the Top 5 for the Eagles in three meets
  • Diaz ran a season's best 8k time of 27:09 at the Big South Championships on Nov. 1
  Anna Conrad:
  • Conrad is a freshman from Millersport, Ohio
  • She finished 5th at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12
  • She set personal bests in the 5k at the Big South Championships and 6k at the Sand Shark Invitational and ECU Pirate Invitational
  • She was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on Oct. 16
Ella Collins:
  • Collins is a freshman from Cork, Ireland
  • She finished 6th at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12
  • Achieved a personal best in the 6k at the ECU Pirate Invitational on Oct. 4
Olivia Kemp:
  • Kemp is a junior from St. Augustine, Fla.
  • She finished 7th at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12 and finished 10th at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational on Oct. 18
  • Achieved a personal best in the 6k with a time of 23:38 at the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational
  • Kemp was named to the 2024 Big South Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team after the conference championships on Nov. 1
Kayah Marques:
  • Marques is a sophomore from North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
  • Had the second best time with a personal best mark of 18:55 at the Big South Championships on Nov. 1
  • Had a Top 10 placement at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12
Brianna Dooney:
  • Dooney is a freshman from Summerville, S.C.
  • Finished 10th overall at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12 with a time of 19:08
  • Was the second best runner for the Eagles at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational on Oct. 18
Morgan Ruff:
  • Ruff is a senior from Bremen, Ohio
  • Competed in all five events for the Eagles so far
  • Had a personal best time of 19:24 at the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 12
Amira Raso:
  • Is a sophomore from Pageland, S.C.
  • Competed in four of five events for the Eagles so far
  • Had personal best times at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 4 and the Big South Championships on Nov. 1
