Game Recap
- Winthrop struck first, grabbing the lead early in the second half
- The Eagles earned a free kick about 30 yards out from goal as Adelle Pruitt's service found Laura Bennett in the box, she then passed the ball back post to Sadie Guest making a run and she finished into the lower right corner
- Upstate tied the match in the 73rd minute when Dara Russo received a pass near the top of the box
- As the ball popped into the air she flicked it over her head to beat one defender and then settled and beat another defender to open up space and slotted a shot into the lower right corner
- The Spartans had three shots on goal with the only test for Mia Vrataric in goal coming in the 85th minute as a shot from wide came high toward the goal and Vrataric was forced it tip it over the bar for a corner
- Vrataric was also instrumental in taking command of most of the services in front of goal
Notables
- Upstate had a 20-2 advantage in shots and 9-1 in corners
- The goal for Sadie Guest was the first of her Eagle career
Looking Ahead
Winthrop remains at home as it will be in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. vs. Radford. There will be a pregame ceremony to honor the 2024 senior class.
