Game Recap
- Hokies had a good chance on a counter in the 8th minute as Andy Sullins ran down a through ball and after entering the area with a free look at goal he tried to beat Andres Manzano Garcia to the top corner at the near post but he turned the shot away
- Hokies did strike first as Mathias Yohannes played pass to Ethan Hackenberg at the top of the box as he took two touches and fired a shot into the lower right corner past a diving Manzano Garcia
- Virginia Tech grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute when Sullins received a pass, dribbled to his left to create an open space and then blasted a shot from 30 yards out into the lower left corner
- Just under a minute later Jake Gusler tried to get the Eagles on the board as he chased down long pass, dribbled toward a defender and cut back to his right as he fired a shot that went over the keeper and just dipped over the bar
- Hokies found two more goals before the half as a turnover in the defensive third led to a goal by Malick Thiaw and then Yonis Kireh finished an uncontested header off a free kick
- Suhong Jung just missed getting the Eagles on the board in the 83 minute as his shot from inside the box took a slight deflection off a defender's leg, pushing it just wide of the right post
