Clinton, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball won their second straight Big South contest with a dominant performance at Presbyterian Friday night.

How it Happened
Set 1 | The match started at 3-3 before the Eagles scored six of the next eight points to take an early 9-5 lead.
Karli Shepherd had two kills while
Rachel McCollum had a kill and an ace during the small rally. Presbyterian scored three of the next four points to cut it to two at 10-8 but Winthrop scored six straight points to up the margin to 16-8. During the run,
Maeve Rehmann had three kills and a block assist. The home standing Blue Hose then scored two quick points only to watch the Eagles score two straight themselves off an error by Presbyterian and an ace by
Jenna Calloway to restore the margin back to eight at 18-10. The Blue Hose responded by tacking on eight of the next 12 points to make it a four-point game at 22-18. Winthrop then took the set by scoring the final three points, with the clinching point coming on an error by Presbyterian.
Set 2 | Down 4-3 early in the second, Winthrop took total control of the frame, going on a huge 15-4 run to take an 18-8 lead.
Avery Jolley and
Giselle Little each accounted for three kills during the scoring binge. The Blue Hose answered by cutting the lead in half, making the score 18-13. Kills by Little and Shepherd then made it a seven-point margin only for Presbyterian to score two quick points to make it a five-point game once again. The two teams split the next four points, leaving Winthrop still ahead at 22-17. Four plays later Jolley's kill gave Winthrop a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3 | Winthrop led 5-2 after two kills each by Shepherd and Little and a kill by McCollum. Presbyterian tied the set at six but Jolley tacked on a kill and a block solo to put Winthrop ahead by two. A few plays later with the Eagles up 10-9, kills by Rehmann, Jolley, Shepherd and two kills by McCollum gave Winthrop a 15-10 lead, their largest of the set up to that point. Presbyterian then answered with two straight points but an error by the Blue Hose and two kills by Little put Winthrop up six at 18-12. A few plays later Winthrop led 21-13 after a kill by Jolley. The kill largely slammed the door on any hopes Presbyterian had of getting back into the match. Winthrop would come within one point of winning the match after an error by Presbyterian, making the score 24-14. The Blue Hose scored three straight points but on the next play an error by Presbyterian clinched the match for the Eagles.
