N. Charleston, S.C. – Winthrop made its first five shots of the game and continued its hot shooting en route to a 78-59 Victory at Charleston Southern, Wednesday evening in Big South Conference men's basketball action.

FIRST HALF
- Eagles opened the game making their first five shots that began with a turn around jumper from K.J. Doucet
- Micheal Anumba followed with a layup off the drive and Kelton Talford made it 6-5 in favor of the Eagles with a hook shot in the paint
- That Anumba bucket sparked a 16-0 run by the Eagles that saw their lead at 20-5 with 12:15 left in the half and forcing a Charleston Southern timeout
- Buccaneers ended the run as a block from Taje' Kelly led to a floater on the other end by Kalib Clinton
- The Eagles connected on 9-of-11 to start the game that led to the 15-point advantage
- Winthrop pushed its lead to as much as 21 points with two minutes remaining after an Alex Timmerman layup inside
- Eagles shot 58 percent from the field and held Charleston Southern to 28 percent shooting to build a 41-21 lead at halftime
SECOND HALF
- Doucet continued his hot hand to start the second half, which included chasing down a loose ball while the shot clock was close to expiring, turning and firing up a shot while getting fouled as the ball swished for the bucket
- Doucet converted the three-point play to lead 50-25 with 16:56 remaining
- Eagles opened the second half making their first seven shots from the field to help push it lead to 30-plus
- Buccaneers made a 12-2 run to cut the Winthrop lead to 23 points midway through the second half
- Doucet ended the run with a drive down the left side of the lane and finished with a layup
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Winthrop shot 58 percent from the floor in the first and second half while holding the Bucs to 33 percent from the floor in the game
- Eagles dominated the paint 52-34 and had a 37-18 advantage in bench points
- Charleston Southern turned the ball over 14 times while the Eagles had 13 miscues
- Bucs finished with a 15-6 advantage in second chance points as they had 16 offensive boards and won the battle on the glass 37-33
- Eagles were 6-for-19 behind the arc while Charleston Southern finished 2-for-22
- Doucet was 11-for-12 from the floor (3-for-4 behind the arc) as he scored a season-high 28 points
- Alex Timmernan finished 8-for-10 shooting as he scored 17 points off the bench
NOTABLES
- Doucet scored 18 first half points, just three shy of Charleston Southern's team total in the first 20 minutes
- His 28 points are the 4th 20-point game of the season by Doucet and first during league play
- This is Winthrop's eighth straight win over Charleston Southern and also the eighth straight win at the Buc Dome
- Talford finished with one rebound, but reached 600 for his career
