Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a 73-36 loss at Florida on Dec. 30, Winthrop women's basketball (6-7, 0-0 Big South) opens Big South play Wednesday night at Longwood.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS LONGWOOD
This is the 31
st meeting between the Eagles and the Lancers, with Winthrop leading the series, 17-13. The Eagles won both contests last year, including the most recent contest, a 69-58 win on the road 69-58 on Feb. 1, 2023. The first meeting between the two teams was on Feb. 10, 1979, with Winthrop falling 64-62 on the road. The Eagles responded with a 51-48 win on the road the next season on Feb. 7, 1980 to start a streak of winning 10 of the next 14 meetings. Longwood then won eight of the next 13 meetings before Winthrop took both games from the Lancers last season. Longwood went 9-21 (8-10 Big South) in 2022-23.
