Winthrop Aims To End Losing Streak At UNC Asheville Wednesday Night

Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off dropping their third consecutive Big South contest at Radford by a final score of 63-55, Winthrop women's basketball (7-10, 1-3 Big South) aims to end their skid Wednesday night as they venture into North Carolina for the first time this season to face the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS UNC ASHEVILLE
This is the 83rd meeting between the Eagles and the Bulldogs, with UNC Asheville leading the series, 43-39. The Bulldogs won all three meetings last year, including a 59-58 victory in the first round of the Big South Tournament at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. on March 1. The first meeting between the two teams was on Feb. 9, 1985, with UNC Asheville winning 58-56 on their home court. The Eagles notched their first win in the series on Jan. 20, 1986 on the road the next season by a score of 82-66. Starting with the first Eagle victory in 1986 until a 57-54 road victory on Feb. 7, 2015, Winthrop led the series 38-28, including eight straight from 2012-2015 (the longest series win streak for the Eagles over the Bulldogs). It was also their largest lead in the series up to that point. UNC Asheville has totally dominated the series since 2016, winning 15 of the last 16 encounters. Winthrop will be seeking their first win in Asheville since the aforementioned Feb. 7, 2015 contest, nine seasons ago. UNC Asheville went 12-19 (7-11 Big South) in 2022-23.

  • Averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games.
  • Opened the week with a career-high 20 points and 16 rebounds in an overtime setback to UNC Wilmington, her second double-double of the season.
  • Nearly notched another double-double against Queens as she finished with 19 points and nine rebounds.
  • She shot 50.0 percent from the floor (13-of-16) and 13-of-17 from the free throw line (76.5 percent) for the week.
