Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off a 59-43 home loss to Presbyterian Wednesday night, Winthrop women's basketball (7-9, 1-2 Big South) seeks to get back on track Saturday afternoon as they travel to the Virginia mountains to take on the Highlanders of Radford University.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS RADFORD
This is the 87
th meeting between the Eagles and the Highlanders, with Radford leading the series, 67-19. The two teams split their two meetings last year, with the Highlanders winning 74-45 in Radford on Jan. 11, 2023 while the Eagles won at home on Feb. 4 by a score of 60-48. The first meeting between the two teams was on Jan. 19, 1984, with Radford winning 79-62 in Rock Hill on the way to winning the first 33 meetings. The Eagles notched their first win in the series on Feb. 17, 1999 at home by a score of 78-53 and then won for the first time in Radford two years later on Feb. 7, 2001 by a score of 62-56. The Eagles have won only three times ever in Radford (2001, 2006, and 2014) and are seeking their first win there in 10 years. In the last five encounters, the two teams are practically even, with Winthrop holding a slight edge, 3-2. Radford went 14-17 (9-9 Big South) in 2022-23.
