Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop Volleyball (0-6, 0-0 Big South) concludes their non-conference road slate as they travel to the University of Florida for the Gator Invitational.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS CLEMSON
This will be the 41
st meeting between the programs, with the Tigers leading the series 27-13. The first meeting between Winthrop and Clemson was on Sep. 28, 1977, a 2-0 Eagle victory. The most recent meeting was on Sep. 3, 2016 with the Tigers winning in five sets. Winthrop has lost the last nine and 23 of the last 25 matches to Clemson. The Eagles last win in the series was on Sep. 4, 2004, a 3-2 victory on the road. The Tigers went 13-18 (4-14 Atlantic Coast Conference) in 2022.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS SACRAMENTO STATE
Winthrop and Sacramento State will meet for the first time on Friday. The Hornets went 15-15 (10-6 Big Sky Conference) in 2022.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS FLORIDA
Winthrop and nationally third-ranked Florida will meet for the first time on Saturday. The Gators went 25-6 (15-3 Southeastern Conference) in 2022, sharing the SEC title with Kentucky and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament as the third seed, eventually falling 3-1 to second seeded Pittsburgh on the campus of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Winthrop's matchup with the Gators represents the highest-ranked opponent the Eagles have ever played.
LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles continued 2023 in the Summit Hospitality Group Open at Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State last week. The Eagles fell 3-0 to Rutgers, 3-2 to Howard and 3-0 to NC State.
Avery Jolley tallied 30 kills to lead Winthrop while
Rachel McCollum had a team-high five aces and
Isabella Murray led the Eagles in assists with 85. On the defensive side of the ball,
Alyah Cadavid led the Eagles in digs on the week with 47 while
Brookelynn Thomas led the Eagles in total blocks with 13.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Eagles will play their first home matches of the season next week as Winthrop welcomes VCU, Eastern Kentucky and South Carolina for the Winthrop Invitational. The Eagles will play Eastern Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. and then take on South Carolina the next night at 6 p.m. Both of these matches will be televised on ESPN+.
