Eagles Fall To Western Carolina For First Loss Of The Season

Game Recap
  • The Catamounts struck first in the 10th minute as they took advantage of an errant pass in the defensive third
  • Naya Marcil collected the ball and then fired a shot from outside the 18 yard box that knuckled its way past Izzy Giarrizzi
  • In the 14th minute Isabella DeMarco fired a shot near the top of the box that slipped past a diving Giarrizzi into the lower right corner
  • The Eagles cut the deficit in half before the break as Marianella Gillum's corner service to the near post was redirected into the goal by Monssi Avila-Gutierrez
  • Marcil netted her second goal of the game in the 49th minute as she was set up in the box off a pass from Malia Roberts
  • DeMarco netted two more goals in the second half

Notables
  • The Catamounts had a 21-3 advantage in shots and 13-3 in shots on goal
  • Giarrizzi finished the game with six saves while Mia Vrataric had two saves
  • Avila-Guitierrez scored her first collegiate goal and it's the second straight game a freshman has scored for the Eagles

Looking Ahead
Eagles have their first road contest of the season as they'll head to Lexington, Va. on Saturday, Aug. 26 to take on VMI at 4 p.m. The game will air on ESPN+.
