North Charleston, S.C. – The season came to an end for Winthrop softball Saturday afternoon as it dropped a doubleheader at Charleston Southern. The Eagles fell 2-1 in the opening game and 4-3 in the nightcap.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Paige Rivas led off the game with a single up the middle and was sacrificed to second by KaDedra Temple
- Macy McCall came up and singled up the middle, scoring Paige Rivas for an early 1-0 lead
- In the fifth inning, Gracie Prince led off with a single through the hole at first
- Two batters later Ashlyn Cribb doubled to right field to put runners at second and third
- Anna Grace Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to left as Prince scored to tie the game at 1-1
- But on the play Ashton Vanhouse made a throw home that was cut off by Ansley Lee but Lee mishandled it and the ball bounced away as Cribb came around to score for a 2-1 lead
- Sydney Boulware took the loss in the circle but allowed just one earned run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts
Game 2
- Charleston Southern grabbed the early lead as Raleigh Lewis hit a two-run home run
- In the fourth inning Mackenzie Smith drew a leadoff walk and Ashley Wood came in to pinch-run
- The Eagles hit into back-to-back fielder's choice as the lead runner was out at second and then with two on Chloe Baker hit into a fielder's choice for the third out
- In the fifth inning Chelsea Roberson hit a leadoff double to center
- With two outs, Temple came through with a single up the middle to score Roberson and cut the deficit in half
- Bucs added another run in the bottom of the fifth as the run came on an error after a throw into the infield got away and Weslin Jones was able to score from second
- Roberson led off the seventh with a single and McCall was hit by a pitch
- After a Peyton Rivas fly out, Temple drew a walk to load the bases
- Smith made it a one run game with a sacrifice fly to center and Aleah Roy followed with an RBI single down the left field line to tie the game at 3-3
- In the bottom of the seventh, Madelyn Lee laid down a bunt with one out and reached first as the throw from third came late
- The throw to first was over the head of Temple covering the bag and went down the line in foul territory
- Lee raced all the way around on the play to score for a 4-3 win
EXTRA BASES
- Basinger struck out seven in 4.1 innings of relief as she finishes the season with 212 strikeouts
- The 212 strikeouts are the 6th most by any Eagle in program history
- McCall scored a run in the second game of the doubleheader and finishes her Winthrop career with 107, which ranks 13th on the all-time list (128 total runs in her career)
- Paige Rivas played the first game of the doubleheader and was 2-for-3 as she finishes with a team-high .329 average
- Paige Rivas has now led the team in batting average in back-to-back seasons
