HIGH POINT, N.C. –Third-seeded Winthrop lost to second-seeded USC Upstate in the second elimination game of the second day of the tournament at Truist Point by a final score of 8-3. The Eagles conclude their 2023 season at 28-28 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single.
• Nate Chronis's sac fly brought home Joseph Szvetitz to give Winthrop the lead at 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
• Upstate tied it in their half of the fourth on an RBI single and then scored six runs in the next inning to go up 8-2.
• Will Martin flew out to score Szvetitz and cut the lead to five in the top of the sixth.
• But that's as close as Winthrop would get as both teams would not score after that.
