Alex Logusch Carries No-Hitter Into Seventh As Eagles Beat Charlotte, Win Fourth Straight

ROCK HILL, S.C.Alex Logusch carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Winthrop defeated UNC Charlotte at home by a final score of 5-2, splitting the season series with the 49ers. The Eagles move to 21-21 overall and have won four straight games, their longest win streak of the season so far.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winthrop went up 2-0 in the second on an RBI single by Ramses Cordova and a Nate Chronis fielder's choice.
  • Charlotte answered with a score in the top of the third on a passed ball.
  • No runs were scored for either teams until Jonathan Strauss hit a two-run blast to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving Winthrop a 4-1 lead.
  • A couple of plays later Cordova flew out to right field, scoring Nicholas Badillo and extending the lead to 5-1.
  • The 49ers ended the no-hit bid with a solo homer in the seventh.
  • Charlotte loaded the bases with two outs to bring the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the ninth but struck out to end the contest.
 
ON DECK
Winthrop has a week off for final exams but the Eagles will return to the field next Wednesday when they host South Carolina in the second game of a home-and-home series with the Gamecocks at 6 p.m. This concludes a nine-game home stand for the Eagles.
