Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball fell 10-2 at Gardner-Webb, Sunday afternoon in the final game of its Big South Conference series.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Runnin' Bulldogs built an early lead with five runs in the first
- It started with back-to-back singles and a fielding error to load the bases with no outs
- Ella Christopher was next with a single and then Bridgette Strobl walked for a 2-0 lead
- Kiara Kennedy followed with a double, scoring two more for a 4-0 lead before an Abbey Goodrum single made it 5-0
- Gardner-Webb added two more runs in the second
- Eagles got on the scoreboard in the third inning as Peyton Rivas singled to lead off
- Chloe Baker followed with a single, moving Peyton Rivas to second
- With runners at second and third and one out, KaDedra Temple singled to score Peyton Rivas
- Macy McCall then reached on an error by the first baseman and Baker came home from third on the play to trail 7-2
- Leading 8-2 in the sixth the Runnin' Bulldogs got a two-run single from Christopher to win the game 10-2
EXTRA BASES
- Temple's single in the third inning extended her streak of reaching base to 12 consecutive games
- The Eagles allowed a season-high 10 runs in the game
- Peyton Rivas had her fourth multi-hit game of the season as she was 2-for-2 with a run
ON DECK
Eagles remain on the road as they'll head to Spartanburg, S.C. for a three-game series at USC Upstate Apr. 7-8. The opening game will be Friday, Apr. 7 at 4 p.m. and then a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 8 beginning at 1 p.m.
